| Description |
Mt. Woraksan National Park is the 17th to be designated a national park in 1984.
Narrow streams, elegantly green pine trees, and interesting looking rocks make
this mountain very beautiful. If you go up to Jubong Peak, you can see Chungjuho
Lake and the open scenery below the mountain. Even in the summer, parts of the
mountain still have snow on it, and for this reason the mountain is called
Mt.Haseolsan, meaning snow in the summer. At the summit of Mt. Woraksan, you can
see pine trees that have endured countless storms and stay green throughout the
year. Looking down from the top, and you can see for miles on end in all
directions under an open sky. Mt. Woraksan is 1097m above sea level. It is
famous for its steep inclines, and made up of rock cliffs 150m high, and
stretching 4km wide. Nearby the mountain is Chungjuhoban, and Mungyeongsaejae
Provincial Park, Jecheon’s Uirimji, Danyangjeok Seonsa Fortress Archeological
Site and Caves of the Seokhoeam area, and other famous cultural and historical
sites. In the park are many Buddhist relics such as Mireuksa Temple and Deokjusa
Temple, and many cultural resources such as the Maaebulmireuksaji Shrine,
Binshinsaji Lion Stone Pagoda, Deokjusanseong Fortress and Sinreuksa 3-story
Stone Pagoda. The beauty of Mt. Woraksan has been compared to Mt.Geumgangsan
in North Korea and the Alps. The rich history and beauty of this mountain make
it a favorite among many tourists.
