From the Kiev Era (88 ~ 1240), Mongolian Rule (1240 ~ 1480), Moscow Era (1462 ~ 1502), Romanov Dynasty (1613 ~ 1917) to the founding of the Soviet Union in October 1917, Russian is a country rich in history. In 1991, the 3 republics put an end to the old Soviet Union, and formed a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). |

Geography
Russia is the largest country in the world, with a total area of 17,075,400km½, 77 times the size Korea, and 1.8 times the size of the United States. Russia stretches approximately 9,000km east-west and approximately 4,000km north-south. Other than the Ural Mountains, most of the country is flat.
Climate
Russia mainly has very cold, dark, and long winters, summers with daylight that last forever, and very short spring and autumns. Winter begins around October when the sun comes up around 8am and sets at 4pm, only providing very limited sunlight. However, summer is just the opposite, when the sun doesn't set until around 11pm. Snow falls around December and lasts through early April. Temperatures are usually slightly warmer in the southern region, and cooler in the northern region. The rainy season is during the warmest months of the year, from July ~ August, with the areas outside of Moscow getting the most precipitation. |
