Han Chinese make up 94% of the population, followed by 55 other ethnic minorities that make up 6% of the population, including Mongolians, Laos, Uyghurs, and Tibetans. |

The dialect spoken in Beijing (Mandarin) is the official language of China. 7 other major dialects are Cantonese, Shanghainese, Fuzhou, Hokkien-Taiwanese, Xian, Gan and Hakka. In some regions Pinyin, Portuguese, and Tibetan are also spoken. |

Majority of the Chinese population are of no religion, because of religious persecution during the upheaval of the Cultural Revolution. Although the Chinese communist government professes atheism even to this day, things have improved for people who follow Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. |

Geography
China has an area of 9.5 million kilometers squared and is the 3rd largest country in the world. China is made up of mostly mountains and plains that cover the vast country.
Climate
China is varied in climate, from extreme heat and rain in the summer, to freezing temperatures and snow in the winter. The best time to visit China is from September ~ October. |

The main units of currency in China is the Yuan = Renminbi (RMB) - "People's Money"

Bills come in denominations of Y1 - Y2 - Y5 - Y10 - Y50 - Y100
Coins come in denominations of Y1 - 5jiao - 1fen - 2fen - 5fen
Currency Exchanges
Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks, airports, and hotels. A passport is necessary for all currency exchange transactions, and you must keep your receipt for your departure inspection. Travelers from Korea can also exchange currency at major banks in Korea.
