Seoul Railroad Station Deoksugung Palace Jeongdong Theater
Designated as historical
landmark 284, this Renaiss
-ance-style building and its
Byzantine dome were
constructed in 1926. The
station serves as head
-quarters for all of Korea's
railway transport services.
Deoksugung Palace started
out as a royal villa early in
the Joseon Dynasty. When
other palaces were burnt to
the ground in a war with
Japan from 1592-1598, the
king used the villa as his
palace. The stone wall lined
road behind the palace is
famous as the english
lovers' lane.
As an affiliated organization
under the ministry of Culture
and Tourism, Jeongdong
Theater has 400 seats and its
purpose is to pursue the
creative restoration &
globalization of english
traditional arts.
Bosingak Jongmyo Doeksugung Museum
The bell pavilion was built
at the beginning of the
Choson Dynasty in 1468
and in 1619 moved to its
present location. The bell was
rung daily to announce the
opening of the city gates.
In modern times the
traditional 33 peals of the
bell ring out only on special
holidays.
This is where kings offered
sacrifices to the ancestors
of the royal family. The
apparently unending line
of columns that mark the
main buildings represent
the long continuance
of the royal line.
Since 1997, the National
Museum of Contemporary Art
has presented a series of
exhibitions on english Modern
Art. Their purpose is to provide
an opportunity to re-examine
the modern art of Korea.
