• Korean Old Architecture Museum
This
architecture museum was established to contribute to the study and preservation
of Korea's traditional architecture. It features traditional houses of
scholar-officials (from the literati and aristocrat classes), houses of
commoners, three-room thatched houses, a training center and examples of Chinese
and Japanese houses. Major items on display include a number of scale
reproductions of such national treasures as Gaeksamun Gate in Gangneung,
Guksajeon Hall of Songgwangsa Temple, Muryangsujeon Hall of Buseoksa Temple,
Geungnakjeon Hall of Bongjeongsa Temple, Daeungjeon (the main hall) of Sudeoksa
Temple, Namdaemun (South Gate) in Seoul, Yaksajeon Hall of Gwangnyongsa Temple.
• Gongju Folk Drama Museum
The Gongju Folk
Drama Museum specializes in a wide variety of Korean folk arts. It displays
dolls used as folk puppets, masks, musical instruments and shamanism materials.
Traditional farm tools are also on exhibit and the museum hosts a multitude of
folk-related events.
• Onyang Folk Museum
The Onyang Folk
Museum, Korea's first folk museum, houses about 17,000 artifacts that display
the creativity of ancient Korea. The museum illustrates life in old Korea,
traditional agriculture, hand-weaving and hunting techniques, folk crafts and
has a special exhibition hall which displays minhwa, colorful decorative
paintings drawn by anonymous artists.
