Korean currency is called "won", usually shown as a "" before the amount. The currency is issued in various denominations, including coins of 1 won, 5 won, 10 won, 50 won, 100 won, and 500 won and notes denominated 1,000 won, 5,000 won, and 10,000 won. The 1-won and 5-won coins are virtually worthless for practical use. Casher's checks for 100,000 won is alco circulated popularly.
